RentTilt trailers are a type of flat utility trailer that feature a deck that tilts down to create a ramp for easy loading and unloading.
Read More (About Tilt Trailers)With a tilt utility trailer, you won’t need to carry or lift ramps to load or unload equipment because the trailer features a tilting mechanism, typically hydraulic in nature, to lower the back of the trailer to the ground so that the trailer in essence becomes a ramp. Manufacturers design tilt trailers in either full and partial tilt designs, with the latter featuring a fixed deck space where you can store jobsite materials, attachments, and other items that you want to stay in place while loading or unloading equipment using the trailer’s tilt functionality. The quick and effective design of tilt trailers make them ideal for transporting light- and medium-duty machinery, small vehicles, and cargo such as shipping containers.
Tilt trailers often feature a rugged design with strong frame materials, decks with cross-members, and powerful hydraulics. To meet the specific needs of buyers, manufacturers offer tilt trailers in a wide selection of axle, brake, and suspension configurations. Many tilt trailers support a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of up to 7,000 pounds (3,175 kilograms), and some models with multiple axles can handle loads above 14,000 lbs. (6,350 kg). Several trailer manufacturers also offer tilt trailers designed for heavy-duty equipment like pallet forks and support GVWR above 20,000 lbs (9072 kg). Similar to the wide range of capacities, tilt trailers are offered in a variety of deck sizes with lengths commonly between 16-feet (4.9 meters) to 24-feet (7.3 meters)
In addition to capacity, trailer manufacturers often offer options to customize the trailer for the type of work. Winch plates, for example, can be added to more easily load machines and vehicles that aren’t self-powered. For equipment that requires a low-loading angle, such as scissor lifts or mini-excavators, tilt trailers can be designed with more gradual load angles (often less than 15 degrees) to better facilitate loading and unloading. Tilt trailers with low deck heights are also available to give haulers more options when transporting tall machinery. Powerful and controllable hydraulics can be installed to provide additional stability and smoothly transition equipment when loading.
Popular manufacturers of tilt trailers include Aluma, Big Tex, Carry-On, Diamond C, Econoline, H & H, PJ Trailers, Rainbow, and Sure-Trac.
