Q. What makes your hay trailer the best?
Extra Steel Reinforcement - We use a 4x8 box tubing 1/4 wall thickness high-grade American steel, which greatly strengthens the gooseneck and prevents the trailer neck from buckling under heavy tongue weight. A hay trailer cannot have a channel iron neck. We designed this trailer for heavy use and purposely overbuilt it.
Structurally Sound & Strategic Placement - Our hay trailer uses massive & appropriately engineered triangular gussets, 1/4" high-grade American steel, to reinforce high-stress joints. We use a dual-function spare tire mount built into a robust frame crossmember to reinforce chassis rigidity, resisting bending, twisting & flexing. Our Super-Duty models use a Bridge Truss Strap which prevents the trailer frame from sagging or bowing downward under super duty heavy loads.
Superior Cradles - Our cradles use 2"x4" Box Tube Main Cradle with 2"x2" Box Tube Uprights on a 2 7/8" Sch 40 Pipe Rail. These cradles are designed to haul the heavy & tight bails the modern balers are producing.
Wishbone No-Fail Latch - This is the most critical mechanical component, ensuring structural integrity and operator safety.
Axle & Suspension - We use Lippert Components. Lippert uses 3†wide leaf springs vs. everyone else's 2 1/2" wide. So the leaf spring doesn't break over time while hauling hay. They come with a five-year warranty. Super Duty Models use 2-12,000 LB axles, Heavy Duty uses 2-10,000 LB axles & the Standard Duty uses 2-7,000 LB axles.
Tires - Since all tires are not created equal and we have sifted through all the bad ones, we've come up with the best available. The West Lake 14-Ply all-steel radial. They can possibly wear out smooth, but they don't blow out or get belt separation.
Q. How did you come up with the idea for the latch on the Better Built Hay Trailer?
A. We was working on all the other hay trailers. The Pride of the Prairie had a latch system that was working fine, but it had a little bind in it. The Atchison had a latch system working fine, but it could get out of time from the front latch to the back latch.
So, we came up with a wishbone system. If the front latch pin moves a 16th of an inch, the back one always moves a 16th of an inch. And instead of having two dry pins, which wear, and cause friction, and bind, we put a roller on there - took all the bind out of it.
Our latch system will never get out of time. Nothing can twist or get bent. We've never had the latch system fail.
