A Brief History

Founded in 1972, the company was originally known as Pennstyle Campers. In 1982, Pennstyle Campers began to manufacture CAR MATE-branded utility trailers, a move that would eventually include an extensive line of enclosed cargo trailers and open utility trailers. By 1996, the company’s name was officially changed to Car Mate Trailers. Today, Car Mate Trailers are produced on a 55-acre campus in Leeper with seven production buildings that, combined, provide more than 100,000 square feet of building space.

Enclosed Trailers

Car Mate Trailers features both enclosed cargo and car trailers, including long (16- to 24-feet; 5- to 7.3-meter) enclosed trailers that come in gooseneck and fifth-wheel variants. Short-depth (5- to 7-ft; 1.5- to 2.1-m) models are also available for customers looking to transport a motorcycle, bikes, or other toys. Customers can select a motorcycle package that includes Pingel wheel chocks and floor tie-downs. Car Mate Trailers uses .030-grade aluminum that comes in 11 colors; a few colors are also available in .040- and .050-grade aluminum.
