    About Dump Trailers

Dump utility trailers typically have gross vehicle weight ratings (GVWRs) of 10,000 pounds (4,536 kilograms) and under, although there are some exceptions, and they are used for a wide range of applications, including transporting bulk construction waste, dirt, rock, sand, and other materials. They are most commonly available in single- or tandem-axle configurations.

While dump utility trailers have lower load capacities than dump semi-trailers, they have many of the same features, including one or more hydraulic rams that lift the front of the cargo box and allow materials to fall out through a rear gate mechanism. Most dump utility trailers are made from aluminum, which is light but still durable enough for larger payloads, or steel, which is stronger but heavier.

    Dump Trailer Benefits

Because dump trailers are small and light, they are well-suited for such applications as DIY projects at home or working on smaller construction jobs where the hydraulic ram makes quick work of unloading various materials. However, because they are purpose-built for the job, they don’t offer the same versatility provided by other types of trailers.

Some other common examples of utility trailers include cargo, flat, gooseneck, and landscaping trailers, among others. Fully enclosed cargo trailers protect loads from outside elements and can handle transporting items that may otherwise blow away or fall out of an open trailer. They may have one or more side doors in addition to the door, which makes it easier to unload items in the middle of the trailer. There are open cargo trailers available, as well.

Flatbed and landscaping trailers are similar in that they are lighter-weight than other utility trailers because they may only have metal mesh sidewalls or no panels at all within the sidewall frames. Both trailer types often have a wood floor and a metal frame as well as a rear tailgate that folds down to act as a ramp. Landscape trailers sometimes also have drop-down sidewalls for more loading and unloading options.

Flat utility trailers can handle any loads that can stand up to open transport, including ATVs or lawnmowers, and landscaping trailers are ideal for transporting brush, tree branches, plants, yard waste, and other similar loads because they usually have higher sidewalls. Landscaping models also sometimes have built-in racks designed to hold lawn maintenance equipment and tools securely.
