Diamond C’s story started in 1985 in Mt. Pleasant, Texas. Mike Crabb’s background involved auto body and construction, while his wife Kim ran the office of another trailer manufacturer at the time. When that manufacturer went out of business, Mike and Kim founded Diamond C. Today, the business is still family-owned and -operated, with the Crabb’s sons Jeffery and Jacob on board as the company president and vice president of sales and marketing, respectively.
Diamond C’s trailers differ from the competition in a number of ways. One is the company’s exclusive Engineered Beam technology, which it debuted in 2017. Instead of continuing to modify and reinforce standard mill beams like other trailer makers, Diamond C designs custom I-beams, channel frames, and cross members for most of its models. This allows the company to maximize the strength-to-weight ratio of its components and minimize sway and sag.
Another Diamond C exclusive is a 12-foot (3.7-meter) hydraulic dovetail option rated to lift up to 10,000 pounds (4,500 kilograms). The manufacturer also offers a bi-fold ramp gate design, in which the gate folds in the middle for a lower profile and less wind resistance in transit.
Meanwhile, Diamond C’s Telescoupler is a 3-inch (76-millimeter), 40,000-lb ball coupler with two vertical adjustments. A total of 10 inches (254 mm) of travel allows the gooseneck to be attached to a semi-tractor as easily as a 1-ton (0.9-metric ton) pickup, the company says.
