    About Watercraft Trailers

Watercraft trailers are single- or tandem-axle utility trailers designed for hauling personal watercraft (PWC) and small boats. A watercraft trailer may support its load with a cradle haul design consisting of an adjustable bow stop (such as V-shaped rollers beneath the keel near the bow) and horizontal bunks (rests) supporting either side of the middle and aft parts of the hull. Some marine trailers have flat beds for rafts and other flat-bottomed craft. Still others are designed to support the multiple hulls of a pontoon boat, catamaran, or trimaran.

    Ship Shape

A watercraft trailer’s frame may be constructed of steel or aluminum. Because the trailer is designed to be backed up into fresh or salt water, the metal needs to be protected against corrosion with quality paint, powder coating, or galvanizing (coating with zinc). The lights and wiring harnesses must also be sealed. Many marine trailers use stainless-steel bolts and other hardware.

    Sizes & Configurations

PWC trailers are available for models that seat one, two, or even three riders. Some trailers can carry two or even four PWC.

Small boat trailers are available for a number of hull types and boat lengths, including small sailing vessels. You’ll find marine trailers to haul your jon boat, drift boat, bay boat, bowrider or runabout, deck boat, deep V, mod V, utility V, or fishing boat. Other watercraft trailers are optimized with racks for canoes and kayaks.

Many boat trailers support hull lengths of 12, 14, or 16 feet (3.7, 4.3, or 4.9 meters), but there are utility-style models for shorter and longer craft as well. Rated capacities of PWC and boat trailers vary widely from about 600 to 5,400 pounds (275 to 2,450 kilograms).

    Available Features

As with other types of utility trailers, watercraft models can be accessorized and upgraded. Common improvements include trailer brakes for safer handling and LED lighting for reliability and brightness. Toolboxes can be mounted near the tongue for storage, while step-up fenders can give you better access to a PWC or boat mounted on the trailer.
